Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions

Why would I pay when Google Workspace is free?

Yes, the basic version is free. But you're missing a parent portal, school year automation, and the guarantee that data stays in the Netherlands. OpenSchoolCloud offers what free versions can't.

How secure is OpenSchoolCloud?

All data is stored on servers in the Netherlands, under European law. Encrypted connection, daily backups, and built on Nextcloud — open source software used worldwide. No data goes to America.

How does the transition work?

In three steps: (1) you choose a plan, (2) we set up the environment — within a week, (3) we help with migration. Most schools are fully transitioned within two weeks.

How does migration from Office 365 work?

Our migration tool automatically retrieves your folder structure, metadata and permissions. No Excel sheets with permissions, no manual copying. You install the tool, choose what to migrate, and done.

What if I'm not technical?

You don't need to be an IT expert. Guides with screenshots, video tutorials, and you can always call. No ticket numbers, just a real person.

What about GDPR?

All data stays on servers under European law. Ready-to-use data processing agreement and (with Complete/Professional) automatic compliance reports you can share directly with your DPO or board.

What does OpenSchoolCloud cost?

Basic €3/student/year, Complete €5.50/student/year, Professional €9/student/year. No hidden costs.

Is there a trial period?

Yes, 30 days free trial. Contact us to get started.

What about Parro?

Parro does parent communication well, but it's a standalone system from Topicus. You still need Google or Microsoft for storage, email and documents. OpenSchoolCloud combines everything in one platform — fewer tools, less hassle.

Does it connect with Magister/ParnasSys?

You can easily export a CSV from ParnasSys, Magister or Somtoday and import it into OpenSchoolCloud. Takes 5 minutes per school year. Direct API integrations are on the roadmap.
